How I work & what I create

INTERIOR
Bespoke / Fitted furniture

Inbuilt furniture
-
Custom freestanding furniture
I've worked on a variety of inbuilt furniture projects which allows my clients to access and maximise their space to its fullest. This type of custom furniture not only changes the functionality of a space but adds a new layer of comfort and atmosphere. Depending on the needs of my clients and the space and time available to me, I have the option to either build on site or fabricate everything in my workshop and then bring to site to install.

Custom and creative design

Use of high quality materials
I've found these structures really transform outside spaces, extending your home into the garden in a new way. Typically using Douglas Fir for my pergola structures and hardwood for decks, it brings in additional colours and textures that blend in with their surroundings very naturally, whilst also offering more durability. I've worked on everything from simple decked terraces to more unusual multi levelled spaces with seating, planting and cover. I like to work closely with my clients advising creatively and practically throughout the consultation process.

Full consultation discussing material choices
I like to put a lot of effort into the choice of material I’m using and where I’m sourcing it from. I use a local saw mill who cut and mill Devon grown Douglas Fir, which I often use in my exterior projects. It feels really nice knowing the journey of the product before it gets into my hands. For all interior joinery work and furniture making I use local and reputable merchants with FSC certified tags on all of its products, and good quality control measures. I’m always interested and up for going the extra mile into researching materials and their origins. In the past I’ve felt this has made for more of a connection between myself, my client and the material we choose to use; in turn offering more meaning and clarity in the work.

DETAIL/FINISH
-
High standard of finish
-
Good customer communication and attention
A really important part of any creative endeavour is choosing the right materials together, to create the right feel for the piece we are building. Once this is established, I can source and purchase the timber. I think it is important to conceptualise the product and invest time and energy into all the layers that connect together to produce the finished piece. I enjoy exploring this element to my work and think that investment in this element of the design creates opportunity for a higher and more considered finish.
